On the Road Again

Finally after too many weeks being stuck in central PA, Amy and I are back on the road again. We are at Top Sail Beach in NC right now. Got in late last night. I took the Shiva out for a little ocean paddle this afternoon. Normally I’d take the Jed out for this kind of paddle but the surf wasn’t great and I wanted to cover more ground and I was curious to see what the Shiva would be like in the ocean. The surf was rough and gave it the feel of a big water run. Reading the ocean isn’t at all like reading the river though. The current seemed to be taking me every which way and I never knew what was coming next. Charging a 4 foot wave right before it breaks is just like hitting a little boof on the river. With a good stroke off the top you can fly off the back of the wave and drop into the next trough. Pretty fun but I’m still looking forward to getting back to the mountains and rivers in a few days.

Amy and I found an ok mountain bike spot near where we were staying in Julian. It was pretty mellow so Amy would go, which I like, but it was not that great if you’re looking for a gnarly mountain bike ride. It was pretty and right along the river though.

At the end of the trail we found this giant red bush which Amy loved.

Unloading for my ocean adventure. I didn’t get to go out too long but I got a good work out in. Battling the ocean might be even harder than battling the river. It’s just not the same though. Try as I might to find the thrill in playing in the surf I still get bored pretty quickly every time I paddle in the ocean. It’s fun ever once in a while but I need the river.
photo 2After spending weeks in PA where it was grey and 40 degrees it sure is great to be somewhere that is sunny and 70 degrees. Not a bad day to play in the water.

2013 Moose River Festival

The last few weeks I’ve been staying in central PA. Amy and I are working on a few projects to rebuild our bank so we can get back out on the road. While I’ve been here I’ve been having fun revisiting some old paddling locations from when I first started. I’ve spent a few sessions at the slalom course where I first learned to paddle and done a couple runs with Amy and Katherine down the local spring creek. Now that the truck is finally running correctly again I decided to head up to New York to check out this year’s Moose River Festival. I made the trip with my good friend and former paddling partner Robbie Fulton. We learned to paddle together as kids and raced C2 together for a while. We had been to Moose Fest once before when we were quite a bit younger and both were glad to be going back. When we were there as kids we paddled the lower section (classIV) and I remember being pretty gripped for most of it. We decided to spend Friday checking out the lower to see how it compared with our memory. I found it to be enjoyable, a little low, good scenery, but not real scary. There were two stand out class IV ish rapids and the rest was either flat or technical class III kind of water. It was really fun to revisit another place I remember from my early paddling days but way less intimidating than I remember it being. Saturday we ran the bottom section of the Moose. This is the class V section. It is pool drop with some pretty big but very manageable rapids. It was pretty cold all weekend so Amy didn’t go and as you know, I’m not very good at getting the photos with out her. I did manage to get a few of the camp we had and the party though.
IMG_0300

Don’t let this first picture fool you. I took this during the only 5 minutes of sunshine we had. Despite the constant rain and freezing temps, our camp was pretty awesome. We were the only ones there and we were right on the river at the put in for the bottom run.
IMG_0302

Most of Friday afternoon wasn’t too bad, but by Sunday morning we’d had enough. Saturday night it rained all night and our tent leaked. We woke up wet, cold, hungry, and with no place to cook but in the pouring rain. After a couple hours of deliberation and procrastination we decided to just pack up and head home early. We had a very comfortable warm and dry breakfast at Denny’s on our way.

IMG_0311

Saturday night there was a pretty good band playing in the town of Old Forge. This is the nearest town to the river. It’s about 45 minutes away. The little bar, Slickers, was packed with folks who were ready for a party. I guess some of them were just really stoked on Halloween and couldn’t wait. There were a number of super heros in attendance along with this very colorful group.

I had planned to come home from the Moose today but since I came home a day early I was able to join Amy and Katherine for a little float on Spring Creek.

The South East: Episode 1

It’s been a little while since my last update. I believe we left off somewhere after we left Yellowstone National Park and we were on our way to PA. Well as you might have guessed, we made it to PA. I spent about a week there and Amy is still there. There isn’t a lot of things to do in central Pennsylvania so I was eager to get out of there ASAP. Amy has been enjoying working on the farm and teaching yoga a couple times a week. We did get in a casual float day on spring creek while I was there. Amy’s mom also joined us. It was just a class II float but it was nice to get out on the water on a hot afternoon. Although, had I known ahead of time how many trees were in that stretch of river I would probably have recommended not taking my mother-in-law who has never paddled moving water before. Still, she and Amy had a great time being on the river together and I was able to strategically position myself between her and the bigger strainers to ensure that she was deflected away.

After a week I was on the road to the south. I am super stoked to be here now. I always loved coming to the south to paddle as a kid and am only now able to explore the rivers of the south properly for the first time. I can’t wait. My first day in the south east I went to the Pigeon River play spot (site of the 2013 national championships) to check it out. The spot is one of the best I’ve ever play boated in. The hole is retentive, yet friendly and fairly easy to move around in, and it is seemingly bottomless. This is a huge improvement over the shallow spots I’m used to. I left the Pigeon and headed to Asheville to meet my younger sister for lunch and pick up a new creek boat from Pyranha. I left the warehouse and made it no more than 1/4 mile when my truck started making all kinds of terrible sounds and lost all power. I managed to limp it back to Pyranha where I lived for the next four days while trying to fix it. On the 4th day I enlisted the help of Matt at Green River Diesel. Matt, a fellow paddler, has done more than I could have ever imagined to help me out with this problem. If you are in the greater Asheville area and in need of diesel repair, this is the guy to talk to for sure. Long story short, my truck is waiting for the delivery of its new engine. This is a major set back to my financial situation, but if you think about it, I’m essentially getting a brand new diesel which I could never really afford. So, I guess it’s not all bad. I’ve been staying with my friend and fellow team paddler, Mike Patterson, for the last week or so. I’ve gotten plenty of river time in while waiting for the truck to get fixed. Had a few days on the pigeon, some at the worlds feature at the NOC, and a day on the Nolichucky. We even got a day of climbing in which I probably wouldn’t have done if my truck hadn’t broken. I just finished outfitting the new creek boat today so hopefully I’ll get to start checking out some south east creeks pretty soon.

IMG_0195

It sure is pretty in the south east.

IMG_0196

This was supposed to be a panoramic shot but I messed it up. I need Amy to take the photos.

IMG_0200

Mike and Melanie at the climbing spot we went to. I thought it was awesome for my level of climbing. Those of you who climb might find it too easy but it was still a rad spot just in general.

Yellowstone National Park

After spending about a week a Skook, Amy and I were ready to start our long cross country drive to PA. We first had to detour back to Reno to pick up the trailer we left there and then headed east with a small detour to Yellowstone National Park. We spend a week in the Tetons and Yellowstone during which we got to see nearly every kind of wildlife the area has to offer. The exception being bears. We didn’t see any bears while we were there. We camped a little south of the parks at a forest service campground right on slide lake, near where the Gross Venture River poured into the lake. The lake gave us the opportunity to go for nice scenic paddles in the evening and cool off after a hot day exploring the parks. As is the case with so many places we go, we were barely able to scratch the surface of what there was to see and do in the greater Yellowstone area. I’m looking forward to stopping here again on our travels in the future. Here are some pictures we got while we were there, mostly of the animals.

IMG_4065

There were so many bison we got tired of them after the first day. Amy was still stoked about the little ones though.

IMG_4071

If you go to Yellowstone I think it is a requirement to go see old faithful at least once.

IMG_4080

On our last day there, on our way out of the park and back to camp, we finally saw a moose. Couldn’t get a very good picture though.

IMG_0174

This was our drive back to camp after our first day in the park. You can see Grand Teton in the mirror.

There are hundred of pools and hot springs in Yellowstone. Unfortunately they are all full of fluoride, lead, and arsenic. A few of the hot springs in the area also have high levels of radioactivity.

IMG_0188

This big guy was just walking down the road. At least he was considerate enough to keep to the right.

IMG_0191

Looking into Yellowstone Canyon. Looks like there is some good paddling down there maybe. We couldn’t get it in the shot from here but I’m standing at the lip of a 300 foot waterfall. There is another 100 footer about 1/2 a mile upstream. Pretty awesome place. I can’t wait to go back.

The first day we were there, we hiked about 8 or so miles out by where we were camped. Always I want to know, what’s over the next hill?

Our camp site was right by Slide Lake so we went for evening paddles to cool off.

Demshitz is Everywhere

In the last two weeks we have been all over the place. We went from Idaho to Tahoe to the River Store, up to the red woods, and on to Skook. With all the moving around and lack of power when we were stationary I have gotten behind on the updates and photos. This post will get us all caught up again. The photos are not necessarily in chronological order. They all got shuffled for some reason but I think they’ll be fine just the same.

After the event at Kelly’s Whitewater Park, we stayed in Idaho a couple extra days and got some paddling in on the Payette. Our last day there we drove up the South Payette and found some awesome hot springs right on the river. What better place to camp than a hot spring on the river? We left Idaho headed for a paddle with the folks at the River Store but not before having a lay over day at Tahoe. We spent a Friday at the lake just enjoying relaxing on the beach and climbing on some big rocks in the water. After we left the lake we made a detour to South Silver on our way to Coloma. Our intent was just to go for a hike and maybe swim in the pools. I expected to find nothing more than dry rock between some swimming holes, but to our surprise there was a little trickle of water coming down. We elected to make camp at the put in and then squeeze in a low water run the next morning before heading to the River Store. This run was definitely the lowest I’ve ever done it but we were there and Craig had never done it so it was worth it. We couldn’t run the big ones. Well, we probably could have but both elected not to do that to ourselves. Dropping that far onto barely wet rock didn’t look like a great way to start the day. We still got to run the top stuff (except boof boof slide) and quadruple bypass. I wouldn’t go all the way there for that level but since we were there already it was worth it. We then headed to the River Store, where we were only a few minutes late, and had a great day paddling on the South Fork American. To make an already awesome day even better we spent the evening at a BBq at the store. Oh and of course there was ice cream. Lots of ice cream. We ended the night hanging out at John and Brandy’s pool. Falling off stuff, play boating, BBq, ice cream, pool…. pretty awesome day.

The next day we headed to the redwoods where we camped a couple nights before making the push north to Skook. We spent 5 days hanging out on the lake until the wave came in and then surfing until almost dark. Amy and I then split off from the group to head back south and retrieve the trailer we left behind in Reno. We are back on the road tomorrow headed to Teton National Park before we start driving to PA. I can’t wait to do some paddling back east. I haven’t paddled there much and am excited to see some new rivers.

This is on one of the trails in the redwoods. We did a couple hikes there and camped in one of the sweetest campsites I have had anywhere.

IMG_1049

This was our camp in the redwoods. We parked and went up some stairs into the bushes and had this little patio up in the trees. I was kinda like a tree house.

The NF was very different water from what I’m used to. It felt oddly unnatural but if I could see really getting used to it.

Headed to the hot springs in Idaho. It rained on us for 5 days while we were there. It really made me appreciate living in the desert and gave me a reason to finally use that umbrella we have been carrying around.

IMG_3929

The wave is just starting to form and Demshitz is already surfing 4 at a time.

IMG_3948

Even if the wave wasn’t that good, I would still want to go there. It’s rad just to sit there and stare at the bottom some 10 feet below you. The water is crystal clear.

Freestyle Tour Wrap up

As a traveling kayaker I often find myself looking for a place to camp, a place to shower, a place to hang out and stay out of the rain, and of course a place to paddle. Getting any of those things for free is preferred since we like to travel on the cheap. Kelly’s Whitewater Park may just be the ideal solution at least during the week of the event. This has to be my favorite event of the year. The camping was free, there were free showers, a great play spot and a stout run. As if all that wasn’t awesome enough, the camp spot came with a lodge that had a pool table, ping pong, foosball, air hockey, sauna, and a big screen TV. The people in Cascade treat us like rock stars and always stoked to see us. The Payette River Games in Cascade were the last stop on the freestyle circuit this year. We were sad to leave the great accommodations and awesome river but also happy to be done with the scheduled kayaking and get back to just moving from river to river. After Idaho Amy Craig, Carli and I went to the River Store for a great paddle and BBQ. We found some sweet hot springs along our way and then headed up the coast and spent a couple nights in the redwoods. We are in BC now and headed to skook this afternoon. I have a bunch of pictures from the redwoods and hot springs that I need to get posted and I’m sure there will be a few good shots of skook coming up in the next couple of days. I am getting a little behind but I’ll get them to you as soon as I can. For now here are some good shots from KWP.

2013 GoPro Mountain Games

Demshitz killing it in Colorado continues at the 2013 GoPro Mountain Games in Vail.  Demshitz competed in every kayak event offered over the 4 days at the games and had a good showing in all of them. This was my first year doing the creek race. I’m super stoked on racing and can’t wait to race more creeks. Homestake creek is about a half mile stretch of the steepest mankiest water I’ve ever run. The run is very continuous and averages a gradient of about 450 feet per mile. It can be considered two distinct rapids. First is the long mank section. Spread over about 1/4 mile this maze of sharp rocks increases in steepness as you go. After negotiating the mank successfully you arrive in one short pool before the bottom section. It is a good idea to catch your breath here. After the pool there are 4 drops separated by pools of fast moving water. There really aren’t any good eddies. You could back paddle to stay in one pool but you won’t want to be tired coming into the last drop, “leap of faith” which has a tricky lead in and a munchy hole. Your best bet is to run them all in succession. Each drop if run correctly can leave you well positioned for the next drop. On the contrary  if run incorrectly it could leave you in a rapid compounding situation of pitons and/or a pin. In practice leading up to the race I had very limited success on this creek. I had two pins; one of which had me on my back on the river bed wedged between two rocks. I had to squeeze out and kick my boat off of me to get out of this one.  I also took a few pretty hard pitons. In practice it seemed like if I got destroyed on the top section I would clean the bottom and if I cleaned the top I would get destroyed on the bottom. I was on the verge of backing out of the race but then realized that at least for the race there would be a safety crew at every crux spot on the creek. So, the race is really the safest time to run. Feeling slightly comforted by this I raced. I wasn’t that fast but I put down two clean and consistent runs. Given my record in practice I’m stoked to have two runs as smooth as they were. I’m looking forward to coming back next year and going faster. This race got me stoked on creek racing. The combination of physical and mental challenge it provides is unlike anything else I’ve done. I’m really looking forward to the Pine Creek time trial this week at FIBArk.  The day after the race was the freestyle prelims. Two of Demshitz made it to semi finals. Mr Jed is slowly but steadily taking over the freestyle scene. On Saturday Henry Hyde represented Demshitz in the down river race. Sunday was the famous kayak 8 ball. This is one of the most insane races I’ve ever been a part of. I’m sure you have all seen boater X but this race takes it to a whole new level. Using the superior speed and maneuverability of my Shiva I made through 5 or 6 rounds to the semi finals. In the next to last round I got stuffed into a bush overhanging the side of Gore creek by an 8-baller and my race was over. Oh, and on a side note here is a little Demshitz safety tip… Float bags! After the last round of caos, some local paddler in the race swam. We and another guy, Charlie, chased his 69 gallon remix full of water for about half a mile or more before we could get it out of the current. While wrestling it we noted that there were no float bags in the boat. Once we got it to shore it turned out that there were float bags in it but they weren’t inflated. Once the owner of the boat arrived to retrieve his kayak Charlie and I both gave him a hard time about blowing up his float bags. His only defense was, “I didn’t think I would need them.” Lesson of the day, you never plan on swimming. If you are planning to swim, you might rethink running the rapid. Despite swimming never being the plan, you never know when it is going to happen. I don’t care how good you are, we all swim sooner or later. Get some bags and blow them up. It will make it much more likely that you get your boat back and make your buddies job much easier. There is your Demshitz safety tip of the day, now back to our regularly schedule program with some results from this weekends events.

IMG_2711

I know you’re probably thinking it doesn’t look all that manky. These two drops before the first pool aren’t too bad but if you look just above the upper drop in the picture you get the idea. I just ran a 1/4 mile of that crap to get here.

2013 Lyons Outdoor Games

Another great week at the Lyons Outdoor games has just wrapped up. With something like a dozen or more features, the North Sain Vrain white water park in Lyons never fails to deliver plenty of great boating. There is a feature for virtually any water level. This year I finally raced the South Saint Vrain creek race. It was a lot of fun despite being pretty low. I had only one practice run the day before and then raced on Saturday morning. My race run went pretty smooth. I was holding back trying to be clean, afraid that I wouldn’t remember the run that well after only one practice lap. As it turned out, I remembered it very well and now wish I would have paddled faster. We only got one race run, but next year I look forward to being a little more competitive in the race. Saturday afternoon we did the relay race boatercross. This is always a fun event. We raced in teams of 4. The first person does 20 push ups then sprints with his kayak about 100 + yards to the put in. He races about 1/4 to 1/2 mile down the river, does one upstream gate then ferrys to the opposite eddy to tag a teammate. The next team member repeats the course. First team to get all 4 people done wins. There was some talk amongst the competitors about adding a mandatory beer chug to the race next year. It is sponsored by a brewery after all. The underage racers could do a milk chug instead. Sunday was the freestyle finals and the Jr’s freestyle. Rowan Stuart won the Jr women’s comp in her Mrs. Jed with an impressive 420 point ride, a score that would have won the Pro women’s comp. 4 of the 10 semi finalists in the Pro men division were in Sir Carbon Jeds. Mike Patterson finished 4th after finals. I think Dave Fusilli was 6th. Craig Kleckner and Matt Anger were also in the top 10 but I’m not sure exactly where, nor do I have the results from the race, nor do I know where I finished exactly. I didn’t do a very good job of getting the results for this event. I guess I won’t have a future as a reporter. On the bright side however, Amy killed it with the photo taking and I did manage to get those up here on the site with some commentary from yours truly. Check them out below. I hope you enjoy. Thanks for reading.

Cheers

Pete

IMG_2378

It probably doesn’t look like it from this picture but this is the move that I blew in the creek race. I got the boof but not with nearly enough angle which caused me to get pushed into the eddy on river right. I then had to turn and ferry back left for the next drop. It cost me a few seconds.

IMG_2383

If I hadn’t of just told you that, from these shots you’d think I aced it. Let’s go with that.

Paddle Fest 2013

Paddle fest is always one of my favorite events every year. Buena Vista is an awesome little town with an amazing white water park. They have several features that are good at a wide range of levels. The brewery is in the park and the camping is free. The town is surrounded by huge mountains including about a half dozen 14ers. There are hot springs just a few minutes away to aid the sore muscles after a long day of paddling. If the Arkansas river had flow all year I would live in BV for sure.  This year we had very low water right up to the day of the comp. The weather turned warm on Thursday in time to bring us rising water levels all through the weekend. We competed in a feature that was a bit better than last year’s. The hole in BV isn’t very retentive but it is mellow and deep which makes it easy to set up tricks and you don’t worry about hitting the bottom.

Mr. Jed carried two of demshitz into the top 10 in the pro men’s competition with 2 more sitting on the bubble. Craig Kleckner finished 7th, Dave Fusilli was 10th, Mike Patterson 11th, and yours truly was 12th. Rowan Stuart took 2nd in the Jr women’s division and 2nd in C1 with modified Mrs. Jed and only half a paddle.

After the festival we paddled from Pine Creek all the way back to BV. About 12 or 13 miles I think. It was long and cold again. The crew rallied to Crested Butte Monday evening to hit OBJ. Amy and I had to make some stops for provisions and such so we opted out of Monday evening dusk run and met up just as they took out to camp. Our plan was to run it again Tuesday and get some photos at the big one but it got colder than the surface of the moon Monday night and the snow stopped melting which means the water stopped flowing. We woke up Tuesday sad to see such low water. We decided to head up this other creek (I forgot its name.) to scout a stout 7 tiered waterfally drop thing, mostly to kill time hoping that water would come back up. Sadly, it didn’t and Amy and I had driven all the way to OBJ to not kayak. Demshitz was determined to go kayaking though, so we decided that if the snow would not melt and come down to us we will go up into the mountains and kayak it in its solid form. Technically it is still white water. We drove up cottonwood pass and found a good stout slide that dropped about 200 vertical feet. Mike fired it up first followed closely by Craig. We were all pretty stoked until Matt went and ate shit pretty hard. He came flying out of his boat and went rag dolling down the hill. Fortunately, he was ok. Probably got some bruises but no real injury. Dave had a close call with some trees but pulled it off. I was completely out of control right from the start and barely kept it open side up. I hit the small pines that Dave narrowly avoided but it wasn’t too bad. It just sent me spinning. Some of you may recall from the Mt. Rose snow boater X a few years ago that I crashed through the fence and nearly boofed right off the mountain. Given my track record with snow kayaking I’d say this was a huge success just because I stayed on the right side of the hill. After our class V sled ride we went back to BV to spend a night and today ran Pine Creek and the numbers again. Now I am finally sitting at my computer and getting an update out. We head to Lyons tomorrow for the Lyons Outdoor Games. I will try to be a bit more punctual in getting that update to you. There is just so much kayaking to do. You understand, right? Anyway, thanks for reading. I hope you enjoy the pictures.

Cheers!

Pete

BV is such a beautiful place. I’d recommend it to any paddler, biker, climber, insert outdoor sport of your choice.

The view from our camp during the fest

Giant angry fish were jumping out of the water trying to bite paddlers.

IMG_1831

I think this is me finishing my entry move. Well, I know it’s me. I’m not certain at what stage during my ride this was shot but I think it was the beginning.

IMG_1840

Going for the right space godzilla. Not sure if it was good but the picture is kinda cool.

IMG_1844

Demshitz was dancing on the shore opposite the crowd. We like to entertain.

IMG_1869

Oh my god! That fish bit Craig’s head off!

IMG_1883

Mikey likes it….

IMG_1884

… no, he LOVES it!

IMG_1910

There was a family of fox pups camping near us. Amy got within about 20 feet while taking these pictures.

IMG_1917

Once he realized he was being photographed this fox kindly jumped up on the rock to pose.

IMG_1926

There were 4 all together. These two aren’t too sure about that girl with the camera.

Cadence taking in the view in Crested Butted while we were stout hunting at about 10,000 feet. It’s hard to breathe up there.

Scouting the stout.

IMG_2077

Considering options. Cadence says it’s no good and I soon agree.

Mike stoked at the bottom after probing it for the rest of us.

IMG_2119

Perhaps he celebrated a little too early.

IMG_2122

He lost his paddle, but he nails the hand roll and is stoked.

The rest of the crew ready at the top

IMG_2139

Craig stoked after having a clean line and getting the most distance on the flat out of everybody.

Matt Anger  catches just a little air on the way down…

IMG_2144

and then he catches some edge on the landing…

IMG_2145

… rolls…

IMG_2146

… and swims…

IMG_2147

… gotta give him style points for summersaulting out of his boat and kicking it off of him in one fluid motion…

IMG_2148

Craig races to the rescue as Matt continues to tumble down the hill.

IMG_2153

and he’s still falling.

IMG_2150

IMG_2154

After all that Manger is stoked to be in one piece. Some bumps, some bruises, but nothing broken. I’d call that a win.

IMG_2156

Craig is so overcome with joy to see Matt standing that he has to sit down.

IMG_2174

I am out of control and on a collision course with the trees.

IMG_2175

Going for the spin

IMG_2176

a quick brace

IMG_2177

It’s no good. Impact is imminent.

IMG_2178

Oh good. I just hit the small one.

IMG_2179

Watch out Craig!

IMG_2189

Didn’t crash into a tree, at least not a very big one. Win

IMG_2191

So glad that’s over.

Reno River Festival 2013

Another great year at the Reno River Festival came to a close yesterday afternoon. This year the festival was moved back to its traditional mother’s day weekend after the new dates in June didn’t work out all that well last year. The Reno River Festival is always one of my favorite events of the year, in part because its my home town festival and all my friends from around the country come to my town to hang out. This year however, the festival was a little extra special for me. In just a few days now Reno will no longer be home. Home will be wherever we are parked, so having this one last hurrah with friends old and new in the city I’ve called home for the last 5 years was an awesome way to say farewell. I competed in the freestyle events and the boater-cross. I didn’t do as well as I’d hoped in either event but had a great time none the less. I put down a pretty solid ride on my first ride in prelims of the freestyle but wasn’t able to duplicate on my second ride. I was still feeling out of breathe from the first ride when I dropped in for the second. The next comp is in Buena Vista Colorado in two weeks and you can I’ll be working on cardio conditioning between now and then. I like to look at every event as a potential learning experience. If they don’t go as well as I’d like I can certainly use them to see what I need to work on. I made it through the first round of boater-cross but in the quarter finals I was coming into the upstream gate in a close third and feeling confident I was going to push my way into second in order to advance. However, I made a small but costly mistake coming into the gate and got pushed low in the eddy resulting in having to fight to get back into third and I lost the leaders. That’s the way boater-cross goes. You never know what’s going to happen. I’m looking forward to the next race and hope the competition is just as fierce next time around. I got to assist with the commentary for the slalom race on Sunday morning which was one of the most fun parts of the event for me. I think I may have found my calling. I get a great view of the event and get to talk to the crowd about what’s going on while enjoying free food and beer supplied by the event sponsors. Not a bad gig.

Here are a few pictures from the freestyle comp this weekend. Check it out. I’m stoked to hit the road for BV. Hope to see you on the water.

Cheers

Pete

Mr. Jed likes to be in the air as much as in the water

IMG_1407

Linking a few ends is super easy in the Jed. The hard part is not getting dizzy in the process.

Mr. Charles Albright, “hey look at that”!
