When I was 13 years old I had the great fortune of meeting a man who was willing to spend his own resources to make kayaking available to me and countless other kids. Since then, whitewater has become a central part of my life. I have been looking for a way to give this back to the next generation. Initially my idea was to do it as a full time job and run a youth kayak program similar to what I started in. However, we live in California and the costs of permits and such would make it so that I’d have to charge so much money that it wouldn’t be affordable to most. Well I’m happy to say I’ve found a loop hole. If I charge nothing I don’t need permits. I’m offering free coaching to kids under 18 years old who have all their own gear and want to get out on the river and improve their skills.
